  • (L-R) OWEN COYLE, HASHAN TILIKARATNE, HOWARD WEBB

Owen Coyle is one of the greatest football talents Scotland has ever produced, especially in forward positions. Having played for more than 14 teams, arguably, the pinnacle of his career was during his contract with Airdrieonians for three years in which he made 123 appearances and scored 50 goals from 1990-1993.

Post retirement, he works as a manager, yet he’s had his share of good and bad moments. In 2012, when he was the coach for Bolton Wanderers, they were in a tough phase.

In the words of the Scottish legend, “We’re actively working to get where we want to be.” He never gave up as a manager, yet he was sacked. Presently, he’s the manager for Blackburn Rovers. He celebrates his 50th birthday today.

    Here’s who else is celebrating:

1967: Hashan Tillakaratne, former Sri Lanka captain (49).
1971: Howard Webb, former Premier League referee who took charge of the 2010 World Cup final (45).

1980: George Smith, former Australia forward (36).
1988: James Vaughan, former Everton striker, now with Birmingham, who is the youngest-ever goalscorer in the Premier League at the age of 16 years and 271 days (28).
