  • The final race of this season’s ZOGGS Mina Mile Open Water Swim Series takes place on Saturday March 1, and organisers are encouraging all interested swimmers in the region to get themselves registered before the entry deadline on Wednesday, February 26.

Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort in Dubai will be the venue for the event that offers swimmers of different ages and abilities the opportunity to test their skills and limits.

The main event will be a one mile (1,600 metres) swim that is open to four different male and female aged categories – 18 years and under, 19 to 39 year-olds, 40 to 49 year-olds and 50 years and over.

A 200m swim for those aged 12 and younger will also take place and will be divided into two categories for 8-year-olds and under and 9 to 12 year-olds.

For those who feel the mile swim is just out of their reach, then the 400m and 800m category for male and females is also available to compete in.

Besides the individual races, there are also relay races open for junior and senior schools, swim clubs, companies, individual teams and families. The relay teams will comprise of three swimmers with each team member having to swim 100m.

Entry fees are fixed at Dh150 per adult and Dh100 per junior (under 18) meaning you can swim as many distances as you wish on the day regardless of how many categories you take part in.

To register visit www.premieronline.com or visit www.supersportsdubai.com for more information. Registration closes midnight on Wednesday.

To encourage more families to taking part, organisers will offer 50 per cent discount so there is even more reason to participate in what will be a great family event.

“Now in its eighth year, The Zoggs Mina Mile is a favourite event amongst swimmers in the UAE where they have the opportunity to swim in three races in one morning” said race director, Warren van der Merwe.

“With it being the only open water swim series on offer in the UAE, the event has evolved into a real family affair with more and more families entering and for this year, if a family of four or more enter, we are offering them 50 per cent off their total entry fee, so there is no excuse to not get everyone in the water.

“The race winners have been dominated by junior swimmers in the past with the likes of Julian Ulanowsky and Gwen van Beek. A group travelling from Hungary will also compete with what we hope will be around 300 or so other swimmers” he added.

With different categories taking place on the day between 09.00 and 12.00, all finishers will receive a medal.

The winner, runner-up and third placed swimmers in all categories will receive race medals and overall winners will get sponsored prizes from associated sponsors.
