  • A dash of colour: The event is a great way to take part in a fitness activity while having fun.

After creating an unprecedented splash on Dubai’s event calendar with a kaleidoscope of colour in December last year, the Color Run returns to the UAE – this time at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

With no winners or official times, the Color Run presented by Daman Activelife will be a vibrant atmosphere with music pumping as runners become moving canvases, doused from head to toe in vibrant coloured powder around the five kilometre course.

On crossing the finish line, runners are greeted by a colour throwing extravaganza at the ‘finish festival’.

Saturday, March 29, is the date you have to mark on your calendar for what will be an extraordinary day out as you run (jog or walk) around the same circuit course in which four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has triumphed on three occasions.

The Color Run is open for one and all. If you want to compete in the run, then register by visiting www.thecolorrun.ae/abudhabi. Entries close at 17:00 on Satur- day March 22, but organisers are encouraging not to wait until the deadline as it’s expected to be a sell-out.

Entries cost Dh140 and includes a gift pack, an event t-shirt, sweat-band and colour pack. In keeping with the Color Run’s tenet of giving back to the community, $1 (Dh3) from every registration will be donated to charity through Just Giving – so there’s even more reason to take part in this unique event.

Exploding in popularity since its January 2012 launch, the Color Run has become the single largest event series in the United States and is gaining traction around the world with China, Australia and Peru hosting successful runs which makes it pretty easy why it’s been dubbed as the ‘happiest 5km on planet’.

In 2013, there were more than one million entries registered for over 100 international events. One of the runners from last year’s event, Jennifer Leiras said it was the ‘best experience’ of her life.

“It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Dubai since moving here four years ago,” said Leiras, who took part in the Dubai event. “My seven-year-old and I did it with friends and she said that it was ‘the best five kilometres of her whole life’.”

Triathlete and Daman’s Activelife ambassador Omar Nour of Egypt says those who do participate will have so much fun that they won’t actually know they are exercising.

“It’s not competitive. People will have so much fun that you don’t think of it as a form of exercise,” said Nour. “It’s a celebration of life, health, happiness. It’s good for people who just want to begin doing some form of exercise or wants to do something different. If you’re someone who trains a lot, it’s a beautiful way of reminding yourself of why exercising is a good sport.”

Being covered with the coloured power during the run, one thing for sure is that you won’t be finishing event clean!
