  • Hey everyone, it’s Niall McCague here giving you a bitesize look at what’s going on in the world of sport.

    TOP STORY

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Monaco midfielder Fabinho from July 1 for a fee of up to 50million euros (£43.7million).

The Brazilian has been identified as a replacement for Emre Can, who is out of contract at Anfield this summer and has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old made more than 200 appearances for the club in all competitions and played a key role in their triumphant 2016/17 Ligue 1 campaign.

He will link up with his new club on the same day as fellow midfielder Naby Keita, who agreed to join Liverpool from RB Leipzig last August.

    FOOTBALL

In other football news, Argentina captain Lionel Messi has urged his compatriots to be realistic their World Cup expectations.

Messi has won multiple Champions Leagues and Club World Cups with Barca, but “would swap any of those titles” for a World Cup.

Elsewhere, in last night’s friendlies France beat Ireland in Paris, Italy overcame Saudi Arabia 2-1 and a Ronaldo-less Portugal draw 2-2 with Tunisia.

    CRICKET

In cricket news, England have recalled Keaton Jennings in place of out-of-form opener Mark Stoneman for the second Test with Pakistan, which gets underway on Friday.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni said fitness was more important than youth as he celebrated winning the IPL at the age of 36 – and looked increasingly good for a fourth World Cup next year.

    OTHER SPORTS

The Golden State Warriors remain on track to defend their title after clinching a spot in the NBA finals for the fourth consecutive year.

A nail-biting decider in the Western Conference finals saw the Warriors dismiss the Houston Rockets 101-92, despite trailing throughout the first half.

Reclaiming the NBA crown will not be easy, however, as the Warriors will once again square up against old rivals the Cleveland Cavaliers in pursuit of victory.

The two sides have contested the finals each year since 2015 – and the Cavs will be looking to even up their records at two victories apiece.

The Warriors won in 2015 and again last year, while the Cavs took the title in 2016.
