  • Strength in numbers: WUS creators Mark Boyd, left, and Don Idrees, third right, are joined by some of the athletes in Dubai.

Some of the planet’s strongest athletes are in Dubai as we count down to an event, the like of which, the world has never seen.

World’s Ultimate Strongman will take place on October 26, bringing together 15 of the best athletes in a competition of draw-dropping strength displays.

Hosted at the spectacular Bab Al Shams Arena, the stunning surrounding will only add to the gladiatorial feel as these monstrous-men collide over six grueling events.

Beasts in the Middle East, as it is being named, with the showpiece for an event that has been designed to have a festival feel, with something for the whole family.

In addition to the strongman competition, there will be a host of contests and activities bringing together local organisations, athletes, residents and visitors.

Speaking at a press conference held alongside Dubai Sports Council, World’s Ultimate Strongman co-founder Mark Boyd said: “We are bringing to Dubai the biggest strongman event that has been seen globally.

“There will also be a huge number of activations aimed at a diverse range of people. There will be lots to do for children and adults, it will be very family friendly, and very affordable.”

He went on to explain there is a clear pathway for local athletes to be able to compete at WUS in the future. “We will have a foundation in place with Emirates Strength,” he said. “There will be a local competition held in December which will present a local competitor the opportunity to compete in WUS next year.”

On board as an ambassador for WUS is 2017 World Strongest Man Eddie Hall. The 30-year-old from Stoke in the UK has become a household name in his homeland since claiming the prize and has gone on to land a host of acting roles alongside a huge number of public appearances.

He said Dubai should be looking forward to a unique opportunity to see these incredible athletes.

“This is the best of the best,” he said. “The best athletes are coming to put on the best show in the world, in the best city in the world.”

Organisers are keen to stress the diversity of the event, this is not just a strongman contest and the additional activities speak for themselves including; a gladiator horsemen ceremony, the monks of the Shaolin Temple, Bench Bash competition, Fittest Human competition, roller skating rink, a UFC experience, Capoeira fighters, amateur boxing and MMA, Hawaiian fire artists, an obstacle course, food trucks, arts and crafts, carnival games, live music, and spectacular firework finale.

Creators of the event, Don Idrees and Mark Boyd said: “Fusing a unique sport with entertainment and festivities in the wonderful city of Dubai with all its culture and panache, we are going to deliver a show like never before and an unforgettable visitor and spectator experience.

“We are extremely excited to be producing and organising the largest show in the Strongman sport and an event that is 100 per cent created, conceptualised and realized in Dubai. A true example of yet another homegrown spectacle with special thanks to the Dubai Sports Council and Bab Al Shams for their support.”

There are a host of ticket packages available including for overseas visitors, children under 12 are free.
