  • Dany Neville has big hobbies away from the Dubai decks.

Acknowledged by many as an ambassador of urban music in the Middle East, Dubai DJ Dany Neville has recently developed a passion for drift racing.

Here, the Radio 1 DJ tells Sport360 about his the new love in his life.

From music to drifting doesn’t appear to be the most natural step, how did you get into it?

I am the new kid on the block. I started drifting in 2014 and it has quickly gone from a hobby to a way of life. Like music, I was naturally drawn towards the lifestyle of drifting. Believe it or not, in more ways than one it’s very similar to music. It’s all about freedom of expression and adapting your own style. Like music it comes down to the audience – you are the entertainer.

Who are the strongest competitors in the region and is there anyone globally you admire for drifting?

The GCC has some great drivers, not to mention some incredible personalities that do wonders for the drift scene. To name a few, my team-mate Sultan Al Quassemi, regional champ Ahmed Daham, UAE champion Ahmed Al Ameri as well as the youngest driver on the scene, Jihad Hassan and the only female drifter in the region, Noor Daood. Worldwide, you have the likes of Chris Foresberg, Ryan Tuerk, Vaughn Gittin Jr and James Dean who are all making drifting relevant to the masses.

Are there any drivers that inspire you particularly?

Vaughn Gittin Jr has been a great inspiration to me, in many ways. His approach to life, as well as his passion for what he does. He has always believed in my passion, supporting me with the Mustang RTR I’m currently driving.

Is there anything you’d like to do to inspire young people to get into drifting?

Always push yourself to try new things in life. You never know where your next passion lies.
