Double bid: Chris Froome.

Tour de France winner Chris Froome looks set to attempt a second Grand Tour victory in less than two months after deciding to race at the Vuelta a Espana.

Froome claimed his second Tour de France win last month in a controversial race as the Briton had urine thrown on him and was spat at amid ongoing accusations the 30-year-old was doping. Speculation that he would be included among Team Sky’s line-up for the race was heightened when he was included in a provisional 14-man squad for the race.

Froome has twice finished runner-up in the gruelling three week tour around Spain, on his breakout tour in 2011 and last year when he was edged out by Alberto Contador.

Should he emerge victorious, he would join Frenchmen Jacques Anquetil (1963) and Bernard Hinault (1978) as the only riders to win both the Tour de France and the Vuelta in the same year.

Colombian Nairo Quintana is expected to once again provide Froome’s stiffest competition in the pursuit of a third Grand Tour victory of his career.

The Movistar rider ate into Froome’s lead in the final week of the Tour de France, but left himself too much to do after falling off the pace in the first week.

Contador won’t return to defend his crown, but an impressive field will also feature 2014 Tour de France winner Vincenzo Nibali, Alejandro Valverde and Tejay van Garderen.

The 21-stage race begins with a team time trial in Marbella on August 22 before returning to Mad-rid for the traditional final stage procession through the streets of the capital on September 13.

Step up to the plate and hit a home run with fun and competition this autumn in the Abu Dhabi Softball League.

Starting in September, the new season will kick off under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

The league features two adult, co-ed divisions for ages 18 and older. If you’ve never played baseball or softball before, fear not as both divisions are slow-pitch and designed for everyone to take part.

With the summer soon winding down, what better way to once again enjoythe outdoors than with a night at the ballpark with friends and colleagues?

The recreational division will take place on Wednesday nights from 19:00 to 23:00, starting on September 30, and running for 11 weeks. Teams, which will be mixed gender and skill levels, will play one, 55-minute game per night.

For more experienced players, the competitive division will be held on Monday nights from 19:00 to 23:00, starting on September 28. Teams will also be mixed gender but will have players of the highest skill level playing two, 55-minute games per night.

Show your skill in the batter’s box on the diamond at Zayed Sports City.

In total, over 180 men and women can take part in both divisions each week, with recreational fielding eight teams maximum and competitive having five teams max. Players can take part in both divisions and even if you’re an individual without a team, you’ll be placed on one.

Registration for the league won’t open until 19:00 on August 23, but those interested should save the date and sign up as soon as possible to avoid getting stuck on the waiting list. League fees are approximately Dh35 per game, required to be paid in full before the start of the season, and all games will be played at Zayed Sports City.
