Budding footballers can expect fun and exciting encounters during the Duplays Football 7s tournament which kicks off next Monday in Abu Dhabi.
So far a number of teams have signed up for the six-week league, which will be played at American International Community School, although it could be moved to another venue in the capital. But you can join them with places still remaining.
Following the success of previous editions in Dubai, Duplays launched their seven-a-side league in Abu Dhabi which received a good turn-out and organisers are confident next week’s event will see similar success.
“Duplays Football 7s is really huge for us,” said Gareth Curtis, UAE operations manager at Duplays.
“It follows on from our leagues which we run in Dubai and they have been very popular and have attracted big number of players.
“The last time we held it in Abu Dhabi just before the summer, we received a good turn-out and we are expecting it to be another success.”
As the UAE’s largest sport and social club with over 5,000 members, Duplays know their sport. Their leagues cover a range of sports including volleyball, cricket and badminton which are hugely popular. Given the response so far, the Duplays Football 7s looks set to be no different.
“It will be the third time we are running it this year in Abu Dhabi and we have already organised a lot of different sports leagues in the UAE capital,” he said.
“They have been very popular and we are looking forward to what will be an exciting league through- out the six weeks.”
The recreational standard league is open to players aged 17 and above, with no more than 10 in each squad. Each team will play two 25-minute matches per week between 20:00 and 22:00 with the final round on October 26.
Also, trophies, medals and vouchers will be given out to the champions, while each squad player will receive an Adidas Climacool shirt. Team entry costs Dh3,500.
Curtis added: “It’s a great opportunity for people to get back to playing after the summer and with it being a recreational league, players do not need to have much practice.
“The most important thing is taking part and having a good time as we want to play our part in promoting a healthy lifestyle.”
