    2000: The British cycling team, including 1km time trial gold medallist Jason Queally, won silver in the sprint at the Sydney Olympics.

    1948: Legendary Australian Don Bradman played his last innings on British soil in Aberdeen, scoring 123 against Scotland.

    2004: Jaguar announced they would be pulling out of Formula One at the end of the season.

    2008: The Football Associations of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland announced that a 'Four Association Tournament' would take place between the countries in Dublin in the spring of 2011.

    2009: England lost by 111 runs to Australia in the sixth NatWest one-day international at Trent Bridge. Australia took a 6-0 lead in the seven-match series but were denied a whitewash three days later when England won the final match.
