The nation’s capital will host a weekend of fun, competitive action with Shangri-La Abu Dhabi’s Dragon Boat Festival expected to be a crowd-pleasing outdoor event.
The festival will take place at Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat al Beri’s Plaza Bar, North Beach on October 23 and 24, with various heats and distances for people of all ages and abilities to take part in.
The community festival brings together friends, families, corporate, schools and universities from across the UAE for a thrilling water sport competition.
After exerting all that energy on the water, competitors and visitors alike can enjoy the traditional Dragon Boat Friday Barbecue Party on October 23 at Traders Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi’s Afya Beach Lounge.
The Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri has been the main sponsor of the Dragon Boat Festival since its inception and has hosted the event for seven years running. The hotel’s North Beach overlooks Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and spectators can enjoy the appealing location while taking part in the event.
Teams will consist of 20 paddlers, with a maximum of 16 men, and all teams who sign up will receive complimentary training and equipment to use.
Individuals can participate for Dh500, while the cost for a corporate team-building exercise is Dh10,000 and for schools and universities, Dh2,000.
Included in the team entry are two hour-long dedicated training sessions with an international dragon boat coach, all equipment and entry to the festival and Friday night Dragon Boat Party inclusive of the barbecue. Entrance for the barbecue is Dh165 for adults and Dh82 for children aged 11 and below. Hotel packages are available for guests who want to make a full weekend of it.
