  • [L-R] Burhess, Owen, Biggio.

One of the greatest English strikers, Michael Owen was a force on the football pitch. Born on this day in 1979, the English former footballer turns 36 today.

He started his career at Liverpool after coming through their youth team and gave a glimpse of what was to come with a goal on his debut in 1997.

He was Liverpool’s top goal scorer from then to 2004 and won a treble of the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and Football League Cup, as well as earned the Ball d’Or in a remarkable 2001.

He went on to also play for Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Stoke City.

Owen ended up as one of only seven players to reach 150 goals in the Premier League and the youngest to reach 100.

Since retiring in 2013, Owen has become a racehorse breeder and owner, as well as a regular football analyst.
