  • Perfect: New England Patriots.

It was the final week of the regular season on this day in 2007, but it felt more like a Super Bowl atmosphere when the New England Patriots were challenged to finish the year a flawless 16-0.

The New York Giants gave the Patriots all they could handle, with the home team going up 28-16 in the third quarter.

New England, however, responded with three straight touchdowns, including a 65-yard bomb from Tom Brady to Randy Moss in the fourth quarter that broke both the NFL record for most touchdown passes in a season (50) and most receiving touchdowns in a season (23).

The Pats would win 38- 35, but were thwarted by the Giants in the Super Bowl.

1963: The Chicago Bears win the 31st NFL Championship Game 14-10 over the New York Giants.

1965: The 54th Davis Cup concludes with Australia beating Spain 4-1 in Sydney.

1983: Sunil Gavaskar records the highest Test cricket score ever by an Indian, knocking 236 not out versus West Indies.

1997: Australia defeats New Zealand by five wickets in the final of the Cricket Women’s World Cup, with Debbie Hockley named player of the match.
