  • England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will have his first runner as a racehorse owner when 2yo Pippy contests the Manor House Stables Lily Agnes Stakes at Chester on Wednesday.

Registered in the name of Wayne and Coleen Rooney, the juvenile son of Exceed And Excel cost £63,600 and is trained by Tom Dascombe at the Manor House Stables owned by Rooney’s Manchester United Michael Owen who are also sponsors of the race.

The Rooneys have bought three horses, all in training with Dascombe, with the other pair, Tomway and Switcharooney, expected to have their first outings in the coming weeks and Tomway is a possible runner at Chester on Thursday.

Pippy will be ridden by Jamie Spencer and will be joined by no fewer than four stablemates in the 14-strong field.

Meanwhile, Michael Owen will also be hoping for Chester success later in the week when his 2011 Royal Ascot winner Brown Panther is expected to reappear in the Ormonde Stakes on Friday.
