  • Good cause: The run raised funds for breast cancer research.

More then 700 people participated in the ADCB Zayed Sports City 5 and 10km Run, as organisers declared it the most successful edition yet.

Presented by ActiveLife in association with ADCB, the run raised funds for Al Jalila Foundation in their support for breast cancer research.

Finishing first in 10km at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, was Morocco' Brahim Slimani, with 32.38 minutes, ahead of runner-up France's Jean Claude Haramboure (37.59min). South Africa's Ruan Ferreira finished third with 38.04mins.

Great Britain's Jill Mair crossed the finish line first in the 10km women's run with 43.35mins, ahead of runner-up Canada's Shannon Benson (44.47mins) and third-placed Helen Munro (44.55mins) of Great Britain.

In the men's 5km, it was a one-two for Uganda as David Sappa triumphed in 16.35mins ahead of Mulangwa Bosco (17.47mins). UAE's Osama Saeed finished third clocking 18.10mins).

British female runners clinched the podium spots in the 5km, with Rebecca Forest winning in 20.16mins, with Amber Harding (21.42mins) and Karen Miller (22.12mins) in second and third places respectively.

One stand-out performer was 10-year-old William Nicholas, who completed the 5km run in 22.16 minutes.

Steve Watson of Abu Dhabi Striders, which organised the run, was thrilled with the turn-out.

He said: "It was the most successful run that we have done at Zayed Sports City. It was a magnificent atmosphere with it being a charity race and some people took part wearing pink clothing. When people are running from eight to 60-year olds, it really is a testament to the event.

"The Zayed Sports City run has only been running for three years and year on year it has gone from strength to strength. And with it being the first race of the season, and on a very hot day, the response was magnificent with people of different abilities taking part. It was great to see the community embrace this opportunity in the Middle East."
