Nike’s world series set to hit the ground running in Dubai

  • Get your healthy lifestyle up and running: The world series comes to Dubai.

    We Run Dubai, a 10km race that is part of the global Nike We Run Series, will take place on December 19 in Downtown Dubai.

    The Dubai leg will be held un­der the patronage of Sheikh Ham­dan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and the Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC).

    The series is hosted by 14 cities across Europe, Latin America, and Asia and ranges in distance from 7km to a full marathon.

    “One of our roles as the sports council is to promote sports culture in Dubai,” said Dr Ahmad Al Sharif, DSC secretary general.

    “We are very pleased to partner with Nike for We Run Dubai this year as it offers a fantastic oppor­tunity for everyone in the region to include sport in their lifestyle and challenge themselves to become better athletes.”

    Mohammed Baker, deputy chair­man & CEO of Gulf Marketing Group, the holding group of Sun and Sand Sports, Nike’s official dis­tributor in the Middle East, said: “We are very excited to bring back We Run Dubai, which highlights Nike’s efforts to cultivate and grow the running culture in the region. Nike has been enabling the running movement in the UAE for years through the brand’s latest running innovations and through the Nike+ app and the Nike+ Run Clubs.”

    Registrations close later today for anyone over the age of 16 years. For adults over 21, registrations can be completed on the Nike We Run Dubai homepage: www.nike.com/ werundubai.

    For those under the age of 21, reg­istration can be completed online, free of charge. However, upon race pack delivery, all under-21 runners will have to hand in a waiver signed by their guardian.

    Nike says it offer the latest foot­wear and apparel innovations that will help athletes take their race goals to the next level.

    The race gets under way from Downtown Dubai at 07:30.
