  • Big draw: The series opener had attracted hundreds of runners where participants were happy just to finish the race.

You have until Wednesday if you want to participate in the Go Sport/Asics Run Series Race 2 at The Track Golf Club at Meydan in Dubai on November 28.

    – Saucony Dubai Autodrome 5km race is open for entries

Sanctioned by Dubai Sports Council and organised by Super Sports Events, Ismail Ssenyanga and Kifah Sbeitan will look to defending their 12km titles they won in October.

The first race drew hundreds of runners of all ages and abilities, and organisers are hoping to attract over 500 next weekend.

There are different age categories for both men and women, with three distances to choose from; 4km (for eight and under, 9-12 years, 13-18 years and 19 years and over), 8km and 12km (for 18 years and under, 19-39 years, 40-49 years and 50 and over).

The top three finishers in each of the age groups for men and women will receive attractive prizes.

Entry fee is Dh150 for adults while children will be charged Dh100, and includes a chip timer, while all finishers will receive a certificate, medal and a sponsor giveaway prize.

In order to attract more families, organisers have set a 50 per cent discount for families of four or more.

Warren van der Merwe, race director from Super Sports Events, said: “The series has got off to an amazing start and for Race 2 we have had a lot of interest from corporate and community-based groups wanting to bring groups of runners down and organise a friendly challenge amongst themselves.

“We will continue to offer the 50 per cent discount on entry fees for a family of four or more wanting to participate as this is what the races are all about.”

Describing the course, he said: “The race will start and finish at The Track Golf Clubhouse and will be run along a 4km loop along the internal roads of Meydan, adjacent to the golf course.”

And Mark Rosario, assistant manager at The Track, said: “It is a pleasure to host this race series at The Track Golf Club at Meydan.

“All runners are very enthusiastic and it will be great to see so many junior runners out here as well. We look forward to welcoming both old and new runners to our venue.”

And Nasir Rafiq, brand manager of Asics, said: “With the introduction of the 12km distance this season, it now allows runners from last season to push themselves a little bit more.

"We have decided to open it up and have age group category winners as well and not just the top three spots for males and females.”
