  • TriYAS takes in the iconic Yas Marina Circuit.

Yas Marina Circuit has announced that registration is now open for the 2016 edition of TriYAS by Daman’s Activelife, taking place on 26th February 2016.

Next year sees an increased field of 1,700 people allowing more youngsters, first-time racers and experienced triathletes to take part in the sixth edition, which has so far sold out every year.

TriYAS by Daman’s Activelife involves different distances for adults, as well as races exclusively for children and women. As always, the waves start in Yas Marina as the cycle and run sections see it transition from day into night around Abu Dhabi’s iconic Formula 1 track.

“The health community is delighted that triathlons are becoming more and more mainstream, allowing thousands of men, women, and children to take part every year in a rewarding challenge that boosts fitness,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit.

“It is extremely important for us to encourage local communities of all ages to become more active by taking part in Abu Dhabi’s rich line-up of health and fitness programmes, of which TriYAS now in its sixth year is one of the standout events every year.”

TriYAS by Daman’s Activelife includes two distances for adults: the Olympic category, with a 1,500-metre swim, 40-kilometre bike race and 10-kilometre run and the shorter Sprint category, involving a 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike course and 5-kilometre run.

The KidsTRI for children aged between 9-17 years is also on offer to test young participants over a 200-metre swim, 10-kilometre cycle and a 1.5-kilometre run.

Participants will be able take advantage of an eight-week training programme at the circuit as well as access to Personal Performance tips and motivation by two-time champion and TriYAS performance mentor Olivier Godart.

Godart will be posting video training tips and is available to answer any performance queries participants may have via twitter using the #TriYAS to help people to prepare for and stay the course for TriYAS .

Participants will be encouraged to share their own personal stories of their training experiences across social media, using the hashtag ‘#TriYAS’ in a bid to spur others on.

Godart, who will be competing in the professional race, said: “Just by thinking about TriYAS, my heart is racing at 150bpm. TriYAS is racing at its purest, full throttle – it’s red line all the time. I am very excited to be the TriYAS Performance Mentor and look forward to encouraging more people into the sport of triathlion.”
