  • One of the most anticipated events on the UAE polo calendar is just around the corner with the British Polo Day 2014 Series set to take place on Saturday, 22 March in Abu Dhabi and then on Friday, 28 March in Dubai.

The series kicks-off in style at Abu Dhabi’s Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club, the private royal club of His Highness Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed al Nahyan followed by a spectacular display of the British Polo Day at Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, the birthplace of British Polo Day.

Set to be a glamorous affair in Abu Dhabi, the day will begin with the Hackett Camel Polo Cup, featuring members of the elite Cavalry & Guards regiments of the British Army following which will be the much awaited British Exiles versus Ghantoot Polo match.

After witnessing the action on the field VIPs from across the UAE will descend to the InterContinental for an Argentinian style dinner at The Gaucho Grill.

The following weekend, the Habtoor family will welcome 500 VIP guests at the Dubai Polo Club on the first day of the region’s biggest equine weekend, a day prior to the Dubai World Cup Races, the season finale to the regions polo calendar.

Alongside traditional camel polo, British Polo Day Dubai will also play host to the Middle East’s very first bicycle polo match.

Invented in Ireland in 1891, the British Polo Day will witness this entertaining game for the first time.

An action packed night will also see the players from Oxford taking on Cambridge for the Gaucho Cup followed by the grand finale of the day as Habtoor Polo compete against the British Exiles team.

With UAE being the only Middle East country to be a part of this British Tradition, the Thesiger Trophy, presented to the winning team of the Abu Dhabi series, has been designed keeping in mind the history of Polo in the Emirates.

The coveted trophy is based on pictures of His Highness Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed al Nahyan, a famed show jumper himself, taken by British explorer, Sir Wilfred Thesiger more than fifty years ago.

Although British Polo Day Abu Dhabi is invitation-only, members of the public can attend the British Polo Day Dubai by reserving tables at www.britishpoloday.com
