Another exciting double action day was held today at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club for the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2017. Habtoor Wolves and Julius Baer by Habtoor Polo defeated Mahra and Bangash Polo Team.

In the first match of the day, for sure one of the most exciting matches of the season till now, Wolves defeated Mahra by 10 goals to 9 in a match that was decided in the last action of the game.

A great goal by Ezequiel Martinez Ferrario gave Wolves the “in extremis” victory after a great comeback in the ffh chukker.

Mahra had the control of the match in the first half but Wolves never gave up and achieve to close a 3 goal gap in the fourth chukker to enter the last period one goal above (7-8).

In the last 7 minutes Wolves reaction was accomplished with Manuel Crespo scoring to even the match in 9 goals and the last action by Ferrario for the very celebrated triumph by Habtoor Wolves Team.

In the second match of the day, Julius Baer Team by Habtoor, with ten goaler Nicolás Pieres playing at a superb level, defeated Bangash by 11 goals to 8.

Patron Mohammed Al Habtoor’s team played a great first half and achieved a comfortable 5 goal gap in the score (9-4). But Bangash fought hard to close the gap and managed to put some pressure on Julius Baer Team in the fourth chukker.

But Nico Pieres appeared with all his talent in the last seven minutes to warrant a deserved victory by 11 goals to 8.

Julius Baer: 4-2/ 7-4/ 9-4/ 9-5/ 11-8

The Julius Baer Gold Cup continues next Tuesday with another double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.

Starting at 2pm, UAE Polo will play against Zedan followed by Desert Palm against Abu Dhabi Polo Team.

Bin Drai and Abu Dhabi Polo Team started the Julius Baer Gold Cup 2017 in the best way by achieving two great victories against Desert Palm and UAE Polo in the double action day held at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, Dubai’s first luxury polo and equestrian community located in Dubailand.

Bin Drai defeated Desert Palm by 10 goals to 3 while Abu Dhabi won against UAE Polo by 12-10.

In the first match of the day, Bin Drai, team made up today by Tarik Al Habtoor, Gregorio Gelosi, Francisco Elizalde and Raúl Laplacette needed the first two chukkers to warm up but from the third period onwards, and with the engines at full speed, they had the control of the actions and the score for a deserved 10 goals to 3 victory.

Francisco Elizalde was the top scorer of the match with 5 goals.

Bin Drai: 1-0/ 2-3/ 5-3/ 7-3/ 10-3

The second match of the day showed a much even and tough game, with two teams playing in a great level and the final score decided in the last minutes.

UAE Polo, winners of the McLaren Cup, started in a great shape and led the score in the first two chukkers. But a comeback by Abu Dhabi, with a 5-0 in the third chukker, gave them the lead from half time till the end of the game.

UAE Polo kept behind in the score by 1 goal and put a lot of pressure on Abu Dhabi. But patron Faris Al Yabhouni’s team, with Alfredo Capella playing at a great level, handled the situation and secured the victory in the last minutes with two consecutive goals for a 12-10 triumph.

Capella was the mvp and top scorer of the match with 10 goals (8 penalties).

The Julius Baer Gold Cup continues tomorrow with another double action day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.

Starting at 2pm, Mahra will play against Wolves Polo followed by Julius Baer Habtoor Team against Bangash Polo.

At Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club, Rashid Al Habtoor, Daniel Gariador, Juan Ruíz Guiñazú and Jerónimo del Carril inspired Mahra to a 8-4 win to retain their title.

It was a deserved victory for Mahra, who made a positive start to the championship decider.

In the first chukker, they were leading 3-1, before extending their lead to 7-2. In the third, they increased their advantage before Habtoor fought back with two goals.

But Mahra did enough to hold on for the victory. There was more reason to celebrate for del Carril, who took home the Most Valuable Player award, after he and Ruíz Guiñazú were the top scorers with four goals each.

Quini, owned by Mahra and played by Guiñazú in the fourth chukker, also won the Best Playing Pony award.

Meanwhile, Bin Drai took third place in the competition after defeating Wolves Polo.

Leading 2-1 in the first chukker, Bin Drai upped the ante in the second, scoring three more times.

Wolves got back into the game with two goals but Bin Drai continued their momentum to hold a five-goal lead in the third.

Both sides gave it their all but Bin Drai held on to win 9-6, with Raúl Laplacette finishing as the top-scorer with six goals.

The Polo Masters Cup is a 14-goal handicap tournament played under the umbrella of the Dubai polo Gold Cup series.
