  • Just a week after having securing the UAE National Road Race title for a record eighth time, there was more reason to celebrate for Yousif Mirza as he clinched his fifth UAE Time Trial championship.

The win continues the blistering form of the Ras Al Khaimah native, who has already completed a quartet of medal wins after capturing the continental title in the points race at the Asian Track Cycling Championships and Asian Road Race crown earlier this year.

Riding on the flat 33.5 km course, the UAE Team Emirates star overcame Marwi (+17″) and Mansoori (+1’35”) in the standings to add another victory to his previous wins from earlier in the season.

“I’m very happy and satisfied for having achieved this result, it’s great to confirm my leadership in the time trial too,” said Mirza whose next race will be at the Tour of California in May.

“I thank my team, I always receive a huge support from the management, from the team mates and from the staff.

“I want to continue to achieve good results and to perform at a high level in this season and in the Year of Zayed.”

Mirza, the first professional Emirati cyclist to ride on the UCI World Tour and compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, achieved a season’s best 74th-place finish at the Dubai Tour in February.
