  • The place to be: There will be no dearth of entertainment for spectators.

Vincenzo Nibali and Mark Cavendish are just some of the elite riders at this year’s Dubai Tour and you can see how they fare as well as enjoy the wide variety of entertainment and activities on offer at the Dubai Tour Village this weekend.

    – PLAY: Sport360 World Cup Stick Cricket

The Tour got underway yesterday with Cavendish crossing the finish line first at Union House Flag in the opening sprint stage.

And today (Thursday) until Saturday, the riders will descend on the Dubai International Marine Club in Mina Seyahi.

Not only is it the starting point of each stage, but it’s where the free-admission Dubai Tour Village is situated and will be the place to be to soak up the atmosphere, get a glimpse of the star riders and watch the action unfold on the big screen during the three remaining stages.

Open from 09:00 today until Saturday – the fourth and final stage of the event – the entertainment agenda is as impressive as the riders’ entry list  and will keep the visitors busy.

Get ready to be amazed as the line-up includes a dazzling Brumotti acrobatic bike show, to run twice a day, plus a German wheel and stilt show.

And kids won’t be left disappointed; they can look forward to watching the vibrant and colourful bubble and balloon man shows.

And the fun doesn’t stop there as special kids play zone will be built for them to enjoy.

“The Dubai Tour Village is a perfect venue for people who want to enjoy the Dubai Tour,” said Sami Al Emam of Dubai Sports Council, which is organising the event.

“There will be fun activities for people to enjoy while the entertainment schedule is very exciting.

“The stages begin at the Dubai International Marine Club so it’s a good chance to get close to the riders and maybe get a picture or an autograph.”

High-profile cycling teams Team Sky and Tinkoff-Saxo are among the 16 sides competing after the event was given a 2.HC status – the second highest classification for sanctioned events.

Besides Nibali and sprinter Cavendish, the field includes Olympic gold medallist

Geraint Thomas (Team Sky), ex-world champion Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing Team) and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team).

With that in mind, expect some thrilling stage races  with Burj Khalifa and Jumeirah Islands just some of iconic locations for the 128 riders, who will have to cover a total of 515km over the three stages.

Joining the world’s elite will be the UAE national and Emirates’ Skydive Dubai teams as they look to make the country proud in front of their home fans.
