On a night when the Stallions dominated in every facet of the game, Davion Miller stood out as the clear choice for the Desert Bowl MVP.
The running back continued his assault on opposing defences, gashing the Dubai Barracudas for 55 rushing yards and three of his team’s four touchdowns.
“It works out well in my favour but I give the MVP to the defence and to the offensive lineman, those guys blocked,” Miller said. “A lot of the players are unsung heroes, so getting the award, I dedicate to everyone else.”
Stallions coach Anthony Daniels said of his ball-carrier: “Davion is a workhorse and we were going to give him the ball. He’s a strong runner, he’s got a lot of heart and he showed out tonight.”
Miller earned the honour for his outstanding play in the title game, but could just as easily be named the MVP of the entire playoffs. In the Stallions’ semi-final meeting with the Abu Dhabi Wildcats, Miller ran wild for over 100 yards on the ground and three scores, which means he finished his stunning campaign with six of the Stallions’ final seven touchdowns.
“The running game has progressed during the season,” Miller said. “Coming into the game, I had a few touchdowns the last game so we were just going to keep it going.”
The running back is also one of the players who has been on the team for all three seasons and experienced the two Desert Bowl losses to the Wildcats.
With a potential third heartbreak awaiting them, Miller and the Stallions had enough of the same old script.
“We know what it feels like to lose them, so now that we were here, there was no way we were going to lose,” Miller said. “This game meant so much for us. It was three years in the making and we’ve been to the show and we haven’t won. This year we had to."
