The annual Julius Baer Beach Polo Cup Dubai 2014 returns this weekend and event organisers are encouraging people to attend, promising the event will be bigger than ever.
Four of the best polo teams will be battling it out to become champions in this prestigious event on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12. UAE will have three teams – Julius Baer, Maradiva, and Bombardier and Vista Jet – with each side having two Emiratis and one professional player. Switzerland will be represented by Lindt, who will have two Swiss players as well as one Argentine.
Since its creation in 2004, the event has grown to become a worldwide phenomenon and is now held in 30 cities around the world. This year’s event will take place at Skydive Dubai, home to many international sporting events, where the world’s largest beach polo venue is being built especially for this tournament.
To ensure people can afford to attend, organisers have priced single day tickets at Dh50, and Dh75 for two-day passes. Children under 10 can enter the venue free of charge.
Mamemo Productions’ managing and creative director Sam Katiela, creator and founder of the event, says the tournament will be something special.
“This will push the tournament to a totally different level, giving it the awareness it deserves. This is an event of Dubai and the UAE,” said Katiela. “This event represents the strengths, the spirit, and the passion for sport that the UAE is proud of.”
If you’ve never been to the previous tournaments, then you’ll be amazed by the array of entertainment on offer.
Besides watching the polo matches, which will be of high quality, there is plenty of entertainment for the adults and children. Live bands will be entertaining the spectators with a mix of catchy tunes supported by singers and various DJs.
And for children, a special entertainment play zone will be built.
“We will have a kids area that will certainly keep them busy during the day. They will be able to have their faces painted as well as take part in fun games. They will certainly love the area because there’s many fun activities to keep them occupied,” says Katiela.
And if you’re lucky, you could be walking away with some prizes in the raffle and a charity auction set to take place.
If you’re still unsure of attending, Katiela is adamant the tournament will be the best ever.
“Last year’s tournament already exceeded expectations but we are committed to continue to break new grounds,” said Katiela.
“It’s a family event and we want everyone to come along. We have invested a lot in the sport so they can take an interest in it.
“There’s going to be world class entertainment including a fantastic firework display. People who are visiting Dubai will be amazed with what they see.”
