  • Taylor in action.

The legendary 16-time world champion was ousted by Gary Anderson in the semi-finals last night, ending his hopes of winning a maiden title in the UAE.

Taylor admitted he paid the price for not taking his chances as Anderson broke twice in an 11-7 victory, gaining revenge for his defeat at the same stage of last year’s event.

“Gary played well in the conditions and in the circumstances but I had my chances and I didn’t take them. I did enjoy playing here again and I’m looking forward to next year if I’m invited back of course. I think it’s great, I really do,” The Power told Sport360.

However, in terms of conditions, Taylor is glad to get the season’s World Series opener out of the way as he admits the Dubai heat is as challenging as it gets.

“It’s the hardest stage we play on, without a shadow of a doubt. It’s outside and it’s red hot. If you can play here, you can play anywhere. When you throw for a double and when the wind hits you, there’s nothing you can do about it. You have to deal with it and get on with it.”

The Stoke-on-Trent star headed straight to the airport after his semi-final loss.

His hectic schedule shows no sign of slowing down with a business trip to Tenerife next week before the start of the PDC World Cup of Darts in Frankfurt, Germany.
