It is fair to say no other footballer has experienced a more eventful match than Diego Maradona did on this day 30 years ago.
The Argentina icon’s legend was secured during an unforeseeable afternoon in Mexico, bitter rivals England being felled in both controversial and majestic fashion at the quarterfinal stage of World Cup 1986.
The first incident featured the tiny Maradona getting away with a blatant act of cheating as his ‘Hand of God’ saw him illegally flick the ball home.
But true greatness was to follow.
The ‘Goal of the Century’ featured a 60- yard, 10-second dash in which he dribbled past four players and put keeper Peter Shilton on backside before slotting the winner.
