  • Exciting ambience: NRG Sports Cafe is known for creating a great sporting ambience for their patrons.

NRG Sports Cafe, one of the leading sports bars in Abu Dhabi will be holding its inaugural pool competition from Tuesday, August 12. And if you want to take part, then make sure you sign up before registration closes on Monday at 21:00.

Pool is one of the popular sports played by the customers at NRG, which is situated inside the Le Meridien hotel complex.

“Usually the pool tables are occupied from early evening until 22:00,” said bar manager Ognjen Vejnovic.

“I’ve only been here for a couple of weeks and from what I’ve seen, we have some really good players. With that in mind, the management thought it was a good idea to organise a tournament.”

So far, 16 players have already signed up and Vejnovic is hoping that eight more players will compete.

“The response so far has been impressive. People who already expressed their interest have signed up which is great news,” said Vejnovic.

“There are still some places remaining and anyone who wants to play is welcome to register. The competition will be of the highest quality and we could see some thrilling close matches.”

Beginning at 20:00 on Tuesday, the format will be a knock-out every week, with each match the best of three games.

Entry costs Dh150 per person which includes vouchers that can be exchanged for two beverages as well as unlimited bar snacks.

Competitiors must be at least 21-years-old and over with entries on a first-come-first-served basis.

And there will be everything to play for with some fantastic prizes up for grabs.

“The winner will receive an all-inclusive one-night stay at Le Meridien Hotel in Abu Dhabi, while the runner-up and third-place winner will get food vouchers at selected restaurants within the Le Meriden complex,” said Vejnovic.

“We know there will be plenty at stake in the competition and we want to reward the players’ efforts with some fantastic prizes.”

With NRG famous for its atmosphere, as well as broadcasting live sport, Vejnovic has plans of staging more sports competitions.

He said: “I’m actually planning to hold a darts competition in the future as there are a lot of people who play the sport. And hopefully we will be having some futsal tables installed because that is another activity people like to try when they are in a bar.”
