After 5 days of world-class basketball in Dubai only 8 teams remain in contention for a medal at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship.
USA, China, Canada, Serbia, Australia, Puerto Rico, France and Spain have advanced to the quarter-finals, which get underway tomorrow at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai.
The quarter-finals kick off on Thursday when USA faces China at 14:15 (UAE), to be followed by Canada versus Serbia at 16:30.
The day continues with Australia versus Puerto Rico at 18:45, before European rivals France and Spain battle for the last spot in the final four at 19:00.
The quarter-final victors will advance to the semi-finals on Friday, before the gold medal game the next day, which is scheduled for 19:00 at the Hamdan Sports Complex on Saturday, 16 August.
The 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship marks the first ever FIBA World Championship to be held in the United Arab Emirates, as well as the wider region. Host nation the UAE, face Angola in a classification game at Al-Shabab Arena at 14:15.
As a side event of the Championship, The UAE Basketball Association and Dubai Sports Council, together with their partners, have organised a FIBA endorsed 3×3 basketball tournament.
The first event took place last weekend at Al-Ahli Club which almost 100 players took part and had the chance not only to enjoy the games of the FIBA U17 World Championships, but also to showcase their own skills on the 3×3 basketball court.
Now the action will move to Hamdan Sports Complex where a 3×3 official basketball court will be set up for 15 and 16 of August at the main public entrance of the five star facility.
