The 12th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX) opens today offering visitors the opportunity to gain an understanding of the region’s cultural heritage like falconry as well as the international equestrian scene including the water and outdoor sports in the UAE.

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the ruler representative in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, who is also chairman of the Emirates Falconer’s Club, ADHIEX has now become the biggest international hunting and equitation exhibition in the Middle East since its inaugural edition 11 years ago.

Taking place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from today until Saturday, September 13, visitors can learn more about outdoor sports such as showjumping and archery. More than 600 exhibitors from 48 countries will be at this year’s event with some stalls displaying falcon breeding products and training equipment.

Among the exhibitors is Abu Dhabi’s Al Forsan Resort which will be showcasing their facilities to the visitors. Their resort includes watersports, equestrian and motorsports activities and its general manager Rashed Al Qubaisi, said:

“The Abu Dhabi Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition remains one of the most important events in the fields of travel and tourism in the region. It is an event that is always part of our exhibition planning.

“Our main objective is to promote our product with its unique facilities and services.”

Previous years have seen big turnouts and it promises to be another successful edition.

As well as the exhibition halls, a range of fun activities and performances have been lined up during the four-day event. Show jumping and horse grooming lessons are on the schedule while children and adults can enjoy parrot and dog shows. There will also be an opportunity to have your photograph taken with a falcon, organised by Al Ain zoo.

Abdul Naser Nahar, media manager at Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, said anyone who attends the ADHIEX will enjoy their visit.

He said: “ADHIEX is a very interesting exhibition that is open for all ages. Many families attended last year, which was a record since it began, and we expect huge numbers this year given that the entry fee is just Dh10 that the final two days fall on the weekend.

The visitors will get to see a lot of interesting historical products, as well as learning about the UAE cultural heritage that they didn’t know about.”
