If you enjoy playing badminton, then you may want to consider entering the inaugural Shuttle Time Dubai Open on Friday, especially as it’s free to register and the winners will get to attend a star player clinic during the BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals in December.
Taking place at Etisalat Academy’s Sports and Leisure Club in Dubai from 14:00 to 20:00, the Shuttle Time Dubai Open is the first in a series of tournaments aimed at increasing participation in badminton ahead of this December’s showpiece event in the Emirate.
Open to men and women’s doubles pairs in the adult and U-17 categories, players of all standards are welcome to join in what will be a fun and competitive environment.
The winning doubles pair in each category as well as the player who demonstrates the ‘Best Sportsmanship’ throughout the tournament will be rewarded with a spot in a star player clinic during the BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals, at the Hamdan Sports Complex from December 17-21.
Friday’s event will also include coaching sessions where players of all abilities will receive badminton tips and have the chance to participate in skill-based games.
Dr Ahmed Al Sharif, secretarygeneral of Dubai Sports Council, explained the purpose of the tournament.
He said: “The Shuttle Time Dubai Open tournaments are an ideal way to encourage greater levels of badminton participation and performance across Dubai through enjoyable and friendly competition.
“The Shuttle Time Dubai programme is a key element in our association with the BWF (Badminton World Federation) and aims to encourage people from all walks of life regardless of age, ability and fitness level to play badminton as a fun way to be more active."
The tournaments are part of Dubai’s four-year, multi-platform partnership with BWF, the pinnacle of which will be the annual BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries Finals until 2017.
