  • Crawl over to safety: The obstacles over the 10km course are not for the faint hearted.

Wadi Adventure Race (WAR) returns with a new challenge that will push competitors to their limits in the seventh edition’s gruelling obstacle course.

The 10km race, hosted by Wadi Adventure in Al Ain, takes place on Saturday, November 8, and organisers expect a record number of registrations for the event.

Since the debut of the race in 2012, the event has seen growth in both the number of participants and course obstacles, and this year will be no different.

“It’s amazing to see how much the Wadi Adventure Race has grown,” said Wadi Adventure general manager Lennard Otto.

“We had 75 racers and a handful of spectators for WAR 1, and less than two years later WAR 7 is gearing up to host 1,000 runners, hundreds of spectators and more event sponsors than we’ve ever had.

"It’s becoming an event that’s attracting runners from around the world… a dream come true!”

While the nature of the obstacles are being kept a secret to surprise athletes and make the run as tough as possible, veterans and previous participants can expect to face a number of the same obstacles in addition to new ones in the running, swimming, carrying and climbing skills sections.

Held at the foot of the Jebel Hafeet mountain, WAR is seen as a fitting event to be held against this imposing backdrop.

“It’s definitely the contrast in landscape and scenery that makes Wadi Adventure in Al Ain the perfect location for the WAR series,” Otto said. “The mountain, the desert and the great facilities at Wadi Adventure are the perfect ingredients for this kind of event.”

Athletes can register for one of six categories: Elite, A, B, C, D and E (mixed, men and women) depending on the level of challenge one desires to tackle.

For example, racers choosing Elite should be fit and compete to win, while the E category is for average to low fitness level athletes.

The registration fee is Dh225 and includes a race shirt, goodie bag, post-race snacks and all-day admission to Wadi Adventure.

Registrations close on Wednesday, November 5, so make sure to reserve your spot by visiting www.premieronline.com, or call Wadi Adventure on 03 781 8422.
