  • Going for gold: A grand prize of Dhs15,000 is up for grabs.

The DETOUR City Hunt is returning to give UAE residents the opportunity to embark on a full day’s adventure around the city of Dubai in the second edition of the treasure hunt.

The one-day event will take place on Friday, November 21, and lead participants across the city, from BurJuman Centre in the afternoon to a secret location somewhere in the heart of Dubai in the evening, where City Hunt will conclude with an awards ceremony, dinner and entertainment.

Everyone is encouraged to enter for a fun day around the city, with the only restriction being that participants must be 18 years of age or older.

Once again, teams must only use public transport with the metro and bus system to get from location to location, making for an interesting wrinkle in the competition.

“DETOUR City Hunt was very successfully launched last year to promote healthy living through sports in an innovative and fun way,” said Adil Yousif Al Bannay, cultural and social activities manager at Dubai Sports Council.

“Four hundred participants will are available. Going for gold: A grand prize of Dh15,000 is up for grabs. explore the city through public transport, completing various sporting challenges and encrypting clues on the way.

“The team obtaining the highest scores will be awarded with a grand prize of Dh15,000 from Dubai Sports Council. We want to encourage people to reduce their carbon footprint and support the ‘Go Green’ initiative of Dubai government.”

Prerna Mokha, founder and operations director of DETOUR Events, added: “DETOUR City Hunt is the biggest public transport- based competition organised in UAE. We are very excited about all the challenges and tasks that we are preparing for our participants.

The aim is clear: get to know your city from a different angle, help our environment by using public transport, get fit and most importantly – have lots of fun doing it all.”

Teams will have to solve clues and complete various challenges to move on to the next check-point.

At each pit-stop, points will be awarded for the challenges, quizzes and clues. In the first edition of the event, participants had to cycle around obstacles, throw darts, shoot footballs on moving targets, transport coconuts in a wheelbarrow and remain in a plank position for 100 seconds.

This year’s hunt figures to be no less demanding. The winning team will be the one that collects the most points overall and comes to the finish line within a given time limit.

Plenty of prizes will be up for grabs, with first place claiming two Pedego bicycles and Dh10,000 cash, second place earning shopping vouchers to Adventure HQ, SeaYou, two six-month Fitness First memberships and Dh300 cash, and third place netting shopping vouchers to Adventure HQ, SeaYou, two three-month Fitness First memberships and Dh200 cash.

Registration is still open and the sign-up form can be filled out online at www.detouruae.com.

The fee is Dh150 per person for teams of two adults and includes NOL cards, T-shirts, dinner and entertainment. Get friends or family together and explore Dubai in a day filled with fun activities and adventure at DETOUR City Hunt.
