As the sport of triathlon grows in the region, even youngsters can swim, bike and run at the third edition of the popular Sun & Sand Sports Junior Triathlon.

To be held on Friday, March 20 at Kite Beach, the event comes on the heels of the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi. While top triathletes from across the world will feature in the nation’s capital this coming weekend, the next generation will compete later in the month in Dubai in front of friends and family.
The Junior Triathlon is open to kids aged four to 13 years, with spaces still available. The five age group categories are: four to five, six to seven, eight to nine, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13.

Kids will take on varying distances depending on the age group. The younger participants will swim 25m, bike 400m and run 200m, while the older age groups will take on longer routes, including a 200m swim, 1,600m bike and an 800m run.
The top three boys and girls from each age group will win prizes from Sun & Sand Sports. The host sports retailer will outfit kids with Arena swim caps for the water-based leg of the course.
The past two editions of the triathlon have had more than 500 kids as the event continues to develop the sport and triathletes at the grassroots level.

“The Junior Triathlon encourages children to compete or try the sport for the first time, whilst educating on qualities such as strength, perseverance and friendly competitive spirit.”
