  • Testing times: The Sand Pit will challenge participants’ physical and mental strength.

The Sand Pit’s debut event arrives next month with a 15-stage obstacle course designed to challenge participants and increase team work.

With a distance of 10 kilometres, this exciting new event will be held on Friday, April 17, at Al Barari in Dubai, testing both physical and mental strength.

Unlike other similar events, The Sand Pit is not a race, but rather a fun challenge structured to get participants working together as a group instead of against each other.

“The Sand Pit promotes a healthy lifestyle and teamwork, and encourages belief in one’s own capabilities to achieve the unexpected,” said Firas Masri, co-founder and CEO of The Sand Pit. “We wanted to create something that was focused on health and fitness but at the same time was fun and accessible to everyone.

“We understand that a certain percentage have a competitive desire, but it would be impossible to complete The Sand Pit challenge running alone.

“A number of our 15 obstacles need you to work with others in order to overcome them, like ‘A Friend in Need’ and ‘The Quarter Pipe’. Like the Arabian Oryx on our logo, runners are going to work tog-ether instead of compete against each other.

“The Sand Pit is not designed to be a race: people are there to be with each other, to overcome their personal challenges while
being part of a team. And, to a greater extent, a part of all the people running the course.”

A friend in need is a friend indeed: Participants will have to work together to negotiate the obstacles.

Participants can enter as individuals or as teams and will be set off in waves throughout the day of the run. The 15 obstacles will have participants climbing over walls, sliding through freezing cold water and running up sand dunes, among other things.

The full list of obstacles are: Sub Zero, Into the Pit, Stride of Pride,

Barby, The Ape Dome, Rings of Terror, Wally, The Quarter Pipe, Plumber’s Smile, The Mountain, Arachnophobia, A Friend in Need, Alcatraz, Log Days and Hanging By A Thread.

Along with a worthwhile experience, the brave souls who take part will also receive an official The Sand Pit T-shirt, as well as a surprise gift once crossing the finish line.

The deadline for standard entry is Saturday, March 14, while the final day to register for late entry is Thursday, April 9.

Prices are Dh310 for standard and Dh360 for late entry. Spectators can also watch the action for Dh10.
