Whether you’re a player or a spectator, the Duplays’ Summer 3×3 basketball tournament will provide plenty of exciting encounters.
Taking place from 09:00 on Friday, August 7 at Dubai World Trade Centre, the event is part of the Dubai Sports World programme which has been hugely popular since it began in June.
Registration is still open for players who want to showcase their skills in the 3×3 format in the one-day competition.
Since the first 3×3 tournament in 1989, the format has become a hit with players and fans.
It is now part of the Youth Summer Olympic programme while the World Championships have also been introduced.
With the traditional sport widely popular in the UAE, Duplays are keen to see the shorter version grow.
“Duplays have held many 3×3 events before and we usually host the tournaments twice a year,” said Kris Belen, league administrator.
“It is being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre and that has many advantages. Firstly, it’s a very big venue and attracts hundreds of people every day. Secondly, there are many sports being played so even if people are just passing by, they can see how fun and engaging the sport is.

“The most important thing is we want to promote this format of the sport as people may be quite unfamiliar with it, and hopefully they can take it up when the new season begins.”
There is a limit of 16 teams in the men’s and under-18s categories, while eight sides will vie for glory in the women’s event. Entry costs Dh300 per team with each squad consisting of four players.
Teams will play a minimum of three and maximum of six matches.
