TMS dominate girls' swimming championship in Dubai

  • Wonders in the water: The Millennium School won with 232 points.

    Seven schools including DPS Sharjah, DPS Dubai and hosts Indian High School competed in the one-day tournament that saw more than 100 children showcase their skills in the pool.

    With the agenda including all four major disciplines in the 50m distances, TMS’ 24-person squad impressed to take home the top prize, having accumulated 232 points.

    There was also something to celebrate for Mrida Hingmire as she won all five of her races to be crowned Under-12 champion.

    Michael Guzder, school principal was left in awe of the achievement.

    “We are proud of our swimming team who continues to bring laurels to the school. We appreciate the efforts of our coach, the parents and the hard work of our students in making this win possible,” he said.

    More success continued with Adhil Afsal finishing second in the Best Sports Personality of the Year. The award, supported by Dubai and Abu Dhabi Sports Council, saw Afsal’s feats recognised having excelled in basketball, athletics, yoga, football and swimming.

    “I’ve won many awards but this has to be among my best,” said the 14-year-old. “It’s a top award and I have to thank my teachers for their support.”
