  • In cracking form: Jonathan Figy hits a boundary during the game.

Five-time champions Cambridge High School suffered a 50-run defeat at the hands of Abu Dhabi Indian School (ADIS) in the UAE Xchange U-19 Abu Dhabi League.

Having been put in to bat at the Nursery Ovals, Akhilesh Ramesh and Jonathan Figy set the platform for ADIS with a 105-run partnership for the first wicket before finishing with 163-3 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Cambridge could only muster 113-7. Captain Ramesh led from the front, outscoring his more illustrious opening partner Figy, to reach his half century first.

Ramesh hit nine fours in his 51-ball knock 59, while Figy, who was part of the UAE Under-19 squad that travelled to Malaysia in October, went even better with a top-score of 66.

His 50-ball knock included five fours and two sixes before he was sent back to the pavilion in the last over.

In other games, Shining Star International registered their first win in the competition thanks to a fantastic five-wicket haul from Pragil Ganapriyan in their 15-run triumph over Sunrise.

The competition is sponsored by UAE Exchange Centre and organised by the Abu Dhabi Cricket Club under the aegis of the ECB.
