  • All smiles: Dubai College celebrate.

Dubai College could not have asked for a better start to their sevens season as they took home four titles in the annual BSAK 7s tournament.

The aspiring rugby players made the trip to the capital confident despite coming up against some of the UAE’s best prospects at Zayed Sports City.

With crowns up for grabs in eight age groups, competition was always going to be tough but DC put on a string of heroic performances to come out on top.

Despite being beaten 10-7 and 30-0 by JESS Ranches and Dubai English Speaking College (DESC) in the Under-12 and U-13 finals, DC responded brilliantly to claim the trophy in the U-14s. Facing DESC, DC held their nerve to claim a comfortable 22-5 triumph.

DC players and staff were again celebrating, this time in the U-16s after their 29-7 defeat of Repton. The success was even more special for Harvey Bullock, who was named Player of the Tournament for his age group.

Their U-19 side soon made it three titles on the day. Having got past hosts BSAK in a thrilling semi-final, they completed the job by overcoming DESC 27-5 thanks to a string of solid performances from Max Dennehy.

There was also something to celebrate for their girls’ U-14s, who won gold in a hard-fought 15-10 victory over DESC, while their U-19s finished runners-up.

With the Dubai Rugby Sevens on the horizon next week, DC director of sport Andy Jones was thrilled with the performances he saw in the
    capital.

“It was a very positive start to the season with a lot of impressive performances across the age groups,” he said.

“I am delighted the boys are applying to the games what they have been learning in their training sessions. It promises to be a very competitive season with a number of quality schools now playing good rugby.”
