It was all smiles for Dubai English Speaking College’s (DESC) Under-12A girls’ basketball team as they clinched the Dubai Affiliated School Sport Association (DASSA) league trophy.
The 18-8 victory over Dubai College, skippered and inspired by Hana Sultan in the final, capped a remarkable season in which they won all of their six matches and conceded just 46 points.
Having topped the group with wins over JESS Ranches (34-14), Jabal Ali (43-9) and Kent College (39-2), they kept the momentum going with victories over Uptown School (22-8) and Repton School (30-5) to book their place in the final. Among the players to stand out were Charlotte Busteed, who was the team’s top-scorer, and point guards Sandra Samaan and Caitlin Attard.

There was more reason to celebrate for Attard, who was named Most Valuable Player of the Season at the school’s junior sports awards.
Coach Alan Foster said: “Our season has been exceptional and full credit not only goes to the players but the parents who have supported us both home and away.”
