  • Triumphant: JSS students celebrate

JSS International School, Dubai made a big impression at the Y.Kumar Memorial Springdales Inter-School Athletics Meet.

Twelve schools from across the UAE made their way to Springdale Athletic Stadium for the annual competition where students tested themselves against their peers across various track and field disciplines.

Despite stern competition, JSSIS rose to the occasion with a rich haul of medals to be crowned champions. They bagged a total of 57 medals including 25 golds, 19 silvers and 13 bronzes. Their efforts saw them not only claim the overall trophy but stand top of their class in both the boys’ and girls’ categories.

Among those to impress were Ezzekiel Padilla (Under-8), Daniel Ronad (U-12), Vedan Vikram (U-14), who won their individual age groups.

Padilla finished first in the 100m while also winning 50m silver, while Ronad claimed three golds in 100m, 200m and the long jump. Vikram went even better with four triumphs in the 100m, 200m, 400m and the long jump.

More success continued in the girls’ category with Maryam Tanvir topping the U-16 group. She won four medals overall with 400m gold, silvers in the 800m and 100m as well as 200m bronze.

For head coach Boban Chacko, he lauded the athletes’ achievements in what he described as an “overwhelming moment”.

“This victory is very much an overwhelming moment for me as the head coach,” he said. “Our students have trained for the past four years. In spite of the other activities planned for the day my students made the effort to train every day in the morning at 06:30 in a series of coaching sessions organised by the school.

“Since 2013, they have been taking part in National events being held in India and bringing laurels to the school. My aim is to make our athletes develop even more so that they can compete in more international competitions.

“Their hard work has paid off. I would like thank each and every one of them who competed with the true spirit of sportsmanship and made my dream come true.”
