  • Athletics was one of the sports at the BSME Games

It was a busy weekend for Safa Community School as they hosted the Under-11 Small BSME Games.

Twelve schools from across the Middle East travelled to Dubai for the annual event that saw more than 350 athletes compete.

Football, basketball, netball, athletics and swimming were all on the schedule and it was The English School, Kuwait who reigned supreme.

They came out on top ahead of Horizon English School and Horizon International School, who finished second and third respectively.

As well as competing in various sports, the BSME Games also provided a chance for athletes to make new friends and pupils walked away with plenty of memories.

Haydn Matthews, one of the many pupils who featured, said: “I enjoyed the BSME games as I felt proud representing my school. It gave me the chance to race against other people and meet children from other schools and countries.”

Another student, Ian DeJager, added: “The BSME Games is one of my favourite sporting events. The reason for this is because we finally get to work together in a huge tournament that attracted the best schools from across the region.”
