  • A record 1,300 triathletes will participate in the fourth TriYAS by Activelife on Friday at Yas Marina Circuit.

And delighted officials say the big increase in numbers comes as proof the race is here to stay.

“TriYAS by Activelife is a great event and a 30 per cent increase in participants is a testament to its success,” said Nick McElwee, Director of Marketing and Communications at Yas Marina Circuit.

Title sponsor Activelife is an initiative by Daman, the national health insurance company, which aims to mobilise the UAE community to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Dr Sven Rohte, Chief Commercial Officer of Daman, said: “Tri- YAS continues to evolve as a major event in the Abu Dhabi sporting calendar and the record number of entrants this year is indicative of the community’s focus on health and fitness.”

Abdulla Al Shammari, Youth Community Manager at Yas Marina Circuit, added: “Not only is it a great race for experiencedtriathletes, we also work hard to ensure that everyone, no matter the skill level, can feel comfortable running their own race.”

The course takes participants in a swim through Yas Marina, followed by cycling and running around the circuit.

Organisers will also welcome a team from TriYAS’s sister triathlon, Nations Tri in the US.

The team will include Mike Stanek, last year’s winner of the Etihad Airways Tri Club Challenge in Washington DC. A Surf Zone, Bungee Run, an Adventure HQ Climbing Wall, cheerleaders, live music, a special zone for the kids, and a variety of food will be on offer in the entertainment area.

Gates open at 12:00 and spectators have been encouraged to flock to the circuit to cheer on the triathletes.
