  • In gear: The Dubai Triathlon is expected to attract more than 2,000 athletes.

The Dubai International Triathlon returns on November 14, and although it’s nine months away, organisers are encouraging not to miss out on the early bird discount offer.

The event, which is endorsed by Dubai Sports Council, will consist of a 1.9km swim, followed by a 90km bike ride and then a 21.1km run at the Palm, Dubai.

Anyone who registers before the March 15 deadline, will receive a Dh100 discount off the original individual and team entries, which are priced at Dh950 and Dh1,200 respectively.

Consisting of swimming, cycling and running, triathlon has become one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

And in the UAE, it’s no different with many events organised throughout the year attracting athletes of all ages and abilities.

And it was no surprise that more than 1,000 triathletes from 63 nationalities descended on the Atlantis Resort on the Palm in Dubai last year, as they swam, cycled and ran around the iconic venue.

Organisers, Race ME are expecting November’s triathlon to attract a bigger crowd in what will be the second edition of the event.

Around 500 athletes will be flying into Dubai for the event and will be among the 2,000 that will be lining up at the start line.

“The numbers so far has been very positive and we set this early bird discount so that we can attract athletes from the world to Dubai and registrations are now coming in thick and fast, which is great news,” said Paul Venn, race director.

“Last year almost 300 people visited Dubai to take part in the race, coming from Europe, the Far East as well as across the Gulf region. This year more than 500 people are expected to fly in, which highlights the international appeal of the event and the desire of triathletes from around the world to race around Dubai’s iconic landmarks.

He added: “The event is good news for Dubai as it will bring a lot more tourists and develop triathlon in the UAE.”

The event can be competed individually or as part of a three-persons team with different age groups available, starting from 18 and above.

Anyone who registers before the March 15 deadline, using discount code: 2015DITGETINQUICK, will receive a Dh100 discount off the original individual and team entries, which are priced at Dh950 and Dh1,200 respectively.
