  • Marking the occasion of Eid Al Adha, Ignite Surf School UAE is offering Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) classes from Thursday to Tuesday.

Taking place at the Riva Beach Club in Dubai, the one-hour lessons or rentals run from 07:00 until 19:00 on all six days for anyone aged five-years and above. The Riva Club’s entrance fee is waived for those coming to paddleboard.

SUP has become one of the fastest growing innovations in surfing. Originating from Hawaii, SUP is fun and easy to learn and can be used when the surf is flat, making it very popular in the Gulf. By standing on a large wide surfboard, you use the paddle to move the board around the water.

And the Riva Beach club on the Palm Jumeirah has smooth and calm waters, perfect for SUP, especially as the weather is now getting cooler.

“We want to show how popular Stand Up Paddleboarding is and also showcase one of the best places to paddle in the UAE – the Palm Jumeirah,” said Mari De Villiers, marketing and communications manager of Ignite Surf School UAE, who are organising the lessons.

“It really is a fun and exciting activity that is growing in the UAE. We are encouraging people who have never tried it to come along and see how good SUP is.

“And with the Eid holidays and with the pleasant weather in the UAE, it’s a great chance to do some outdoor activities with your family and friends and be active at the Riva Beach Club, which is a beautiful location on the Palm Jumeirah to do the activity.”

There are two different lessons to choose from – express or private. Express consists of a 15 minute tutorial by a SUP instructor and 45 minutes paddling on your own for dh125 per person per hour.

And for private sessions, it’s an hour-long tutorial with an instructor for dh250. If it’s more than one person, it’s Dh225 per person. If you don’t want to attend the lessons, you can rent out a SUP board for dh85 per hour.

The SUP Sisters – a ladies only class, is also available by booking. De Villiers advises for those who are interested to call 055 601 0997 or email Ignite Surf School UAE on info@ surfschooluae.com.
