  • Olympic standard: Canada’s Roseline Filion won bronze at the London 2012 Games.

The second leg of the FINA/NVC Diving World Series 2015 makes its way to Dubai, bringing the superstars of world diving for a weekend of top-end competition.

The event will run across three days from today (Thursday) until Saturday at Hamdan Sports Complex.

Olympic and world champions will come from around the world, including China, Russia, Great Britain and the US, to take part in the lineup of events in preparation for the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, in July.

New to this year’s edition is the inclusion of the mixed synchronised events in 3m springboard and 10m platform.

Divers will use the World Series to prepare for the mixed events, which will be added to the FINA World Championships.

Headlining the field in Dubai is Great Britain’s Tom Daley, who will challenge in the men’s 10m platform.

Daley finished third overall in the 2014 World Series after returning from injuries. He also has two gold medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, bronze in the London Olympics and gold in the 10m platform at the 2009 FINA World Championships on his impressive resume.

Joining Daley will be China’s current World Champion, Qui Bo, who treated spectators in Dubai last year with a perfect dive in the 10m final for full marks from the judges.

“We are delighted to be welcoming the world’s best divers back to Dubai for the FINA/NVC Diving World Series,” said Ahmed Al Falasi, president of the UAE Swimming Federation.

“We were thrilled to witness an incredible display of diving in the last three Diving World Series events in Dubai, and with another lineup featuring multiple world and Olympic champions the stage is set for another superb event.

“It is wonderful that we will again see the best divers here in Dubai, competing at one of the best aquatic venues in the world, the Hamdan Sports Complex. We encourage everyone to come out and witness another spectacular competition from 19-21 March.

“The standard of diving is world class, and the crowd will be treated to some amazing displays of talent and skill. None of us have forgotten seeing Qui Bo’s perfect dive, and we are looking forward to another amazing competition.”

The first leg of the World Series was held in Beijing, with the remaining legs following Dubai taking place in Kazan (April 24-26), London (May 1-3), Windsor (May 22-24) and Merida (May 29-31).

Divers will earn points and prize money in each of the 10 events: 3m springboard, 10m platform, synchro 3m springboard, synchro 10m platform, mixed synchro 3m springboard and mixed synchro 10m platform.

Events are spread out over two sessions every day, starting at 10:00.

Tickets can be purchased at the door of Hamdan Sports Complex and are Dh40 per day. Kids under the age of 12 have free entry.
