  • Very good effort: Winners and runners-up

Omar Behrouzian showed why he’s UAE No.1 by winning the Men’s Open category of the Abu Dhabi Tennis Cup.

Behrouzian took on Simon Roberts, a former top-700 ATP player at Zayed Sports City and with plenty at stake, both participants were on top of their game.

In a well-contested encounter, Behrouzian edged out his opponent to win 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Speaking after his match, Behrouzian said: “It’s probably my last tournament of the season until the summer, so I really wanted to do well and I was able to win. It was a tough fight though. Some really good players played the tournament, I think in all categories, especially the men’s. It was a nice final and I am looking forward to playing again next year.”

He added: “I always like, to be honest, a ZSC tournament, I’ve always done well it in. I just like the facilities there and the court and the organisation and everything is done really well.”

The annual Abu Dhabi Tennis Cup and powered by Under Armour, which ran for 22 days, attracted more than 250 players with titles up for grabs in 19 categories.

Further supported by Wilson, the largest participation-based tournament in the region, this event is a true celebration of tennis which includes players of all ages and abilities giving their best efforts in pursuit of the trophy.

Whittling the field down over three weeks, the last day of matches guaranteed that the best players remained on the court to give a fantastic display to the fans. Led by the school circuit tournament for children under the age 10 in the morning, the afternoon ushered finals across seven boys and girls categories for aspiring junior players.
