  • It has been an action-packed tournament at the Home of Elite Cricket.

The triumph of these three teams at the Home of Elite Cricket brings to an end an exciting and action-packed tournament at ICC Academy, and is sure to spur many more memorable sporting events at Dubai Sports City.

Evergreen enjoyed a 10-run win over newcomers Shagarah Panthers, who done excellently to reach the final stages. But Evergreen’s know-how from previous tournaments helped them over the line against their opponents.

Batting first, Evergreen played steadily with the bat to reach a score of 31, with 30 of their runs coming in the first six overs.

And then their bowlers then took up the charge, restricting the Panthers to just 21 runs.

While there was a significant margin of runs between the two Bronze finalists, there was nothing to separate the Silver finalists, Kambry’s Cargo and the Icons. With both teams locked on 42 runs, a super over was required to decide the winner.

In the end, just one run gave Kambry’s Cargo a win over the Icons, with the former having made eight runs from their over.

There were no such problems for DBMSC-A, though. An easy 23-run win over the DIB Knight Riders gave them the most coveted prize of all, the title of Gold Champions.

Put in to bat, DBMSC’s total of 45 was impressive, and the Knight Riders knew they would have to start strongly. However, the former’s bowling attack was as effecting as their batting, and the Knight Riders could only manage a score of 22 from their time on the crease.

There were plenty of prizes for all of the teams involved. Wali was conferred the Player of the Tournament Award for the Gold Division, Barjinder of Team Valtorque was named the best player of the Silver Division, and Hammad from Mir CC took the prize for Best Player of the Bronze Division.

ICC Academy Manager William Kitchen was delighted with the outcome of the Sprite Ramadan Cup.

“I am delighted to see so many quality teams take to the pitch at the ICC Academy,” he said. “When we established the ICC Academy, we wanted to make it a hub for cricket for people from all walks of life, and tournaments such as the Sprite Ramadan Cup do just that.

“I would like to thank all the teams and the staff at the ICC Academy for this excellent showing and look forward to many more tournaments like this in the future. On behalf of everyone at the Home of Elite Cricket, I would also like to thank our sponsors Sprite for their efforts in making us an excellent centre for the development of cricket.

“My thanks also go out to our trophy partners Crystal Gallery,” he added. “They have been partners with us ever since the inception of public tournaments at the ICC Academy and we look forward to many more memorable years together with them.”

The Sprite Ramadan Cup may have ended, but there is plenty more action at the Home of Elite Cricket this summer. For more information, please call 04 448 1355 or email [email protected].
