Deadeye UAE shooter Abdullah Sultan Al Aryani has made it two Paraylmpic Games medals in four days after he won another silver in the men’s R7-50m rifle on Monday.
Following on from claiming the Emirates’ maiden Rio medal with a silver in the 10m air rifle event on Thursday, Al Aryani repeated the feat at the Olympic Shooting Centre.
The 46-year-old finished with a score of 451.6 points, just shy of Serbia’s Laslo Suranji, who won gold with 453.7.
The pair finished in the same order as they had in qualifying, with Suranji, 37, posting a Paralympic record in the heats and then another record in the final too.
“All the shooters are at a very high level in this event and it only takes one shot to make a difference in shooting,” Al Aryani told www.paralympic.org.
“It was a very tough game with a big challenge from the Israeli and the Serbian, but I am very happy to have my second medal at this Paralympic Games.”
Fellow Emirati Abdulla Saif Al Aryani finished fifth. Compatriot Obaid Al Dahmani failed to qualify for the final, finishing 16th overall.
Abdullah Sultan Al Aryani has now captured two silver medals from three events contested and still has one more to go – the R6 mixed 50m rifle prone, where he is the defending gold medallist from London 2012.
