  • Dragons coach Henry Paul wants a gutsy display from his players.

Henry Paul’s men bounced back from defeat to Doha two weeks ago to hand out a 42-30 bashing to Exiles at the Jebel Ali Centre of Excellence last weekend.

The result means that the competition for trophies this season is wide open and Dragons’ skipper Ross Samson cannot wait to host the best and most consistent team of the campaign so far.

“In terms of the game, we just need to focus on ourselves and keep getting better every week,” insisted the Scottish scrum-half.

“You can see already that anybody can beat anybody in this league so we know we need to be at our best. Quins are in good form and I think they’re the team to beat just now.”

Dragons head coach Paul admitted he will have some absentees, but wants his men to follow up on last week’s win.

“We are looking to back up Friday’s effort with another gutsy display and hopefully try and get some continuity into our game,” said the former dual code rugby star.

“Massive compliments to Quins and the fantastic start to their campaign they’ve had, we’re very aware of their quality so we can only hope we don’t give them much counter attack ball; controlling field position and possession again will be massive for both teams.

Quins, who top the West Asia Premiership, have been the best side so far, but they did forfeit their perfect start a week ago as visiting Doha came away with two points in an entertaining 23-23 draw.

Head coach Mike McFarlane said the result irked his players and he insists they will look to right some wrongs.

“The big games come thick and fast in this league and that’s exactly how we like it,” admitted McFarlane.

“The boys were a bit miffed with the performance last week and were impressive in how honestly they highlighted areas for development. There are some uncharacteristic mistakes from us last week and with myself and the players setting such high standards we always expect better of ourselves and have set about addressing them this week in training.

“Two weeks off wasn’t ideal to be honest after only being a few games in so it was good to get minutes on the paddock under our belts and we feel fresh to storm into Friday.”
