The inaugural edition of the Cigna Park Run, a community outreach event aimed at promoting an active lifestyle, received an overwhelming response from Dubai’s health and fitness enthusiasts with 465 participants convening at Zabeel Park to join the 2.5 km and 5 km courses.

Cigna Corporation (NYSE:CI), the global health services company, organised the sporting event as part of its world-class health proposition, reinforcing the company’s commitment to the well-being of its customers.

Besides a free-timed run, the participants also benefited from a wide variety of allied health activities at the venue.

Qualified personal trainers offered lifestyle advice at dedicated health and fitness stations, and instructors demonstrated warm-up techniques prior to the run.

Visitors to the well-being station tried out the newly launched Cigna Wellbeing app which performs general health assessments to generate personalised health management plans for end users.

The event featured several competitions, including the Spin Wheel challenge which rewarded contestants with fitness gifts for performing certain exercises.

In addition, the organisers invited the participants to snap pictures of their best running poses at the ball pit and share them on Facebook for a chance to win an Apple Watch. An Apple iPhone was also up for grabs for completing a feedback survey.

Art Cozad, CEO of Cigna Insurance Middle East, said: “We are proud that the first-ever Cigna Park Run in Dubai witnessed such a strong uptake. In line with our dedication to creating healthy and inclusive communities, the event brought together people of all ages for a morning of fun physical activity. We are happy to play our part in motivating Dubai’s citizens and residents to take the first step towards a healthier lifestyle, and look forward to hosting many more such runs.”

The Cigna Park Run is open to all. A one-time registration fee of AED100 covers entry to all the subsequent events for the year. The next run will take place on October 6, 2018.

The Gov Games have revealed the impressive numbers behind the obstacles that will await more than 150 teams competing in the world’s first edition of the event.

The Gov Games will be held from 9th until 12th May on Kite Beach in Dubai, with teams competing for prizes totalling two million dirhams.

While the full course details remain under wraps, the names of the obstacles that await the teams have been revealed, as anticipation around the initiative, which has been launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum – Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, continues to grow, with news that a team will be representing His Highness elevating excitement levels.

Participating teams will take on a series of obstacles that will test their physical, mental and teamwork capacities. Obstacles include:

– Stabilizer: This obstacle will have teams deciding between zipping through individually or using a paced team-approach

– Burner: Team captains will be faced with intense pressures to make the important decision of choosing the best team members to complete this challenge
– Iron Grip: Teams will need to think collectively to find the best way to take on this obstacle. It’s team vs. time in this one
– The Wall: Teams will be faced with the decision of using speed or strength to cross this obstacle’s barrier
– Guillotine: Team captains along with their teammates will have to use their initiative to complete the obstacle in a limited time
– Brain Mania: Teams will have to choose between relying on the strongest person or the collective strength of the team for this obstacle
– Human Ladder: Team members will have to create a human ladder that will test the balance between their agility and strength
– Below Zero: This obstacle will test the teams’ strength, determination and trust as they work together to make the right decision
– Muscle Crusher: As the name suggests, this obstacle will put the team under physical and emotional stress and can only be overcome through harmony and team work

The six top performing teams of the men’s and women’s qualifying rounds will progress to the final day, which will be held on 12th May, where they will face the tenth obstacle – Storm.

Here they will have to push themselves and their teammates to perform and achieve more than they ever thought possible; climbing to heights of over eight meters and travelling more than 1.5 kilometers together as a unified team in just part of the formidable final obstacle set-up.

The obstacles are sponsored by several government entities and private sector partners including Dubai Municipality, Dubai Land Department, Dubai Health Authority, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Al Sankari Investments.

More than 35 tons of fabricated steel have been welded and shaped to form the ten obstacles that make up the 40,000 square meter course, and 840,000 liters of water have been used for the obstacles.
