  • Dubai Police’s Alex William Da Silva (green) battles for the ball with an MKS player during their 5-2 win in the quarterfinal of the NAS Futsal Championship.

Riding on the brilliance of their Brazilian star Everton Cardoso, Dubai Police brushed aside MKS 5-2 to book their place in the last four of the Nad Al Sheba Futsal Championship.

Cardoso scored a hat-trick and also set Ibrahim Khaled up with a perfect cross as the Policemen beat MKS to book a semi-final clash with Al Bahri, who trounced Sport 4 All 7-2 in the other quarterfinal of the night at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex.

Captain Ahmad Hussain Ali scored the fifth goal for Dubai Police, while Pol Pacheco Gonzalez and Attos Mendes Da Silva scored the two goals for MKS.

“This win will be a great motivation for the team to try and go all the way in the tournament,” said Ahmad Hussain. “From the start, our goal has been to win the title this year and we are now within two wins of achieving our target.

“We know it will not be easy in these coming matches because there is a lot of quality in the other teams as well, but we believe in ourselves and we are going to fight to reach our targets.”

Al Bahri captain Ramirez Alonso Kevin (blue) tries to make his way past Douglas Dos Santos (No8) and Omar Juma of Sport 4 All in the quarterfinal of the NAS Futsal Championship.

Al Bahri captain Ramirez Alonso Kevin (blue) tries to make his way past Douglas Dos Santos (No8) and Omar Juma of Sport 4 All in the quarterfinal of the NAS Futsal Championship.

In the other quarterfinal, Al Bahri came rushing out of the blocks and were leading 4-1 at the end of the first half with Frenchman Mohammed Abdessamad having scored twice for them, and Ahmed Saleh and Helal Al Jaberi once each. In the second half, Egyptian Essam Alla Shamkh added two more to their tally after Ramirez Alonso had made it 5-1 in the 26th minute. Omar Juma scored both the goals for Sport 4 All.

“If you look at our performance chart, I believe we are improving with every match,” said Abdessamad. “First, we beat the defending champions Al Taher 2-1 and then fought back from 1-4 to split points with Inthar. Now, we have won our quarterfinal 7-2.

“So, we are definitely getting stronger as a unit and this win will certainly give a huge boost to the team’s confidence. We are looking forward to doing even better in the semis and then hopefully in the final.”
